Safety Harbor Florida

Safety Harbor is one of many cute little coastal towns all around Tampa Bay. Safety Harbor Florida faces east on the north side of Old Tampa Bay, so it’s not on the Gulf where all the beach towns are.

The PSTA bus route 62 is the only bus running through town. Sunset Point Road becomes the main drag through town east of McMullen-Booth Road. At the south end of town is State Road 60, which runs west all the way to Clearwater Beach. Eastbound towards Tampa, State Road 60 becomes the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Strict 25 miles per hour speed limit inside Safety Harbor ensures peace and quiet here, unlike many beach towns. Tampa International Airport is near the east end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Town residents have a small marina at their disposal. Marine maps show an anchorage here but there are rarely any vessels anchored here. The Safety Harbor Spa is famous in these parts, the only spa fed by natural spring water and a designated historic landmark. There’s a restaurant and conference center at Safety Harbor Spa besides all the wellness services offered. Wanting to stay in town? The Safety Harbor Spa offers hotel rooms also.

There was a settlement in Safety Harbor Florida during the 1820s, but was not incorporated until the early 1900s. Today this town retains an Old Florida feel, with it’s narrow main street making it ideal for a leisurely stroll through shops and restaurants. Phillippe Park covers a long coastal stretch along Old Tampa Bay. The area was populated by Native Americans and a ceremonial mound built by them is preserved here.
