Miami Florida

Lived in Miami from 1964 to 77. Attended Miami-Dade Community College for two years, back when it was still Junior College. Before that worked at a jewelry supplies place and a jewelry factory. Did a lot of walking and exploring while in Miami. After college also went to work for an aircraft engine overhaul shop.

Extensive public transport makes it easy to live here without a car. The Metrorail runs on an elevated track above traffic, and connects with all bus lines. The free MetroMover runs north and south around the Downtown perimeter area. Starting from Government Center Metrorail Stop, the MetroMover crosses over the Miami River into the Brickell Avenue area.

The Metrorail also now reaches Miami International Airport. Buses going to Miami Beach depart from across Government Center. Back in the sixties the Miami Airport was on the west side of town. With recent urban sprawl the airport now sits in the middle and entirely surrounded by development.

The old Alligator Alley toll road is now Interstate I-75 as it crosses the Everglades and comes into the Miami area from the northwest. The main traffic corridor is Interstate I-95 that comes in from the north. Old US highway One runs along the coast and continues south to the Florida Keys.

The Historic Coconut Grove area is now a popular tourist attraction, plus home to upscale condo towers across the shore. The Coconut Grove Dinner Key Marina was once the Pan American World Airways seaplane base. A shuttle bus runs from the Metro-Rail station on US highway One and SW 27th Avenue to the Coconut Grove waterfront.

Upscale Coral Gables area along Miracle Mile is still as beautiful as back in the sixties. Coral Way, AKA SW 22nd Street, becomes trendy upscale Miracle Mile at SW 37th Avenue, also known as Douglas Road.
