Fort Lauderdale Florida

Less than 30 miles north of Miami is Broward County, Fort Lauderdale Florida being the county seat. The Tri-Rail system makes several stops in the county, including one that serves the busy Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Tri-Rail also connects with Amtrak

Holiday Park is a welcome urban oasis in the middle of the city, a relaxing respite from the sometimes hyper-busy traffic in the area. The above video depicts an F-86 fighter plane from the 1950s. By the childrens playground there is an antique locomotive, warning the little ones not to climb aboard.

Hollywood is just south of Fort Lauderdale Florida, with a beautiful beach. The Broadwalk is a popular pedestrian promenade that extends over a mile along Hollywood Beach. All this paradise along the Atlantic Coast is quite popular all year, particularly during Spring Break.

Boating and fishing are big here in South Florida. There are docks everywhere, some reserved for gigantic yachts. There is a water taxi system that makes several stops along canal docks and at the port. Port Everglades is the Broward County cargo and cruise port. Several cruise ships depart from here, but not as much as Miami.

The Broward County public bus system stops at the airport and continues south to Aventura Mall, It connects with Miami buses at Aventura. Over two million people call Broward County home, nearly as many as Miami-Dade. Interstate 95 and 75 plus US highways 1, 27 and 441 all connect in Broward, making for constant traffic. The short Interstate 595 connector runs between Interstates 95 and 75.

The far west Fort Lauderdale suburbs offer a slower pace. Tree Top Park in Cooper City is just north of Griffin Road, one of several smaller county parks in the area. Sawgrass Mills is a big upscale mall near the west end of Broward Boulevard.
